Implant Restorations in the Aesthetic Zone

Description: In this session Dr Watson will revisit the key principles guiding the treatment planning and case selection of patients receiving implants in the anterior aesthetic zone. He will also explore the key to successful communication during the implant treatment process between the team of oral surgeons, periodontists, prosthodontists and general dentists.

Does the PFM Crown have a Place in the Digital Age?

Description: With the growing number of clinicians opting to use digital technology for scanning and milling ceramic crowns, could the humble PFM crown be facing extinction? In this session, Dr Watson will be reviewing the clinical indications and preparation guidelines for PFM, ceramic and zirconia crowns, and the selection criteria for each material. Dr Watson will also cover key principles that ensure long-term success of dental crowns.


Gilbert graduated in 1984 with a BDS from the University of Otago. He then spent 14 years in private practice before returning to Otago to complete a 3-year Prosthodontic Master’s degree.

As part of his MDS he completed research based on the maintenance involved with implant overdentures having papers published in the peer reviewed international journal – The International Journal of Prosthodontics.

On returning to Auckland he set up a private practice limited to Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics. He continues to enjoy teaching, lecturing both here and in Australia.
