Professor Mauro Farella DDS, PhD is Professor and Chair of Orthodontics at the University of Otago, New Zealand, where he also serves as Director of the Postgraduate Programme in Orthodontics and Director of the Craniofacial Research Programme within the Sir John Walsh Research Institute.

A registered Specialist in Orthodontics in New Zealand and a Certified Member of both the European Board of Orthodontists and the Australasian Orthodontic Board, Professor Farella is internationally recognised for bridging clinical orthodontics, craniofacial growth, biomechanics, and jaw function. His work has also contributed significantly to the understanding of bruxism, temporomandibular disorders, and emerging digital technologies in orthodontics.

He has authored around 200 peer-reviewed publications with approximately 10,000 citations (H-index 55, Google Scholar), secured more than NZD 2.5 million in competitive research funding, and lectured in 25 countries. He currently serves as Associate Editor of Orthodontics and Craniofacial Research and the Korean Journal of Orthodontics and sits on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Oral Rehabilitation and the European Journal of Oral Sciences. Alongside his academic role, he practices exclusively in specialist orthodontics, with particular interests in advanced diagnosis and treatment planning, evidence-based care, functional appliances, adult orthodontics, and interdisciplinary treatment.
