Prof Falk Schwendicke

NZDA23 Falk Schwendicke

Professor and Director, Department of Oral Diagnostics, Digital Dentistry and Health Services Research. His research interests include dental diagnostics and artificial intelligence, cariology and restorative care, preventive and public health dentistry, and health economics and health services research. He has authored over 400 articles, edited several books, and authored over 20 book chapters on a range of topics from caries management to health economics. Prof. Schwendicke has received a number of prestigious awards, including the Basil Bibby and Lion Award from the IADR, numerous awards from the German Society for Dental Conservation, and the David Sackett Award from the German Network for Evidence-Based Medicine. He is a reviewer for over 40 journals as well as for several national funding agencies. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Dental Research and chairs various working groups at WHO, DIN, and FDI. His work on the use of artificial intelligence in dentistry led to the first dental spin-off of the Charité, dentalXrai GmbH.

AI and data-driven medicine

AI and data driven medicine are reality, and also in oral healthcare technology and particularly data-centered approaches are becoming more relevant. The lecture will present the concepts of AI and precision dentistry, lay out their foundation, and provide some examples available to dentists at present. It will also highlight risks and aspects where dentists need to appraise current products critically.
